As we look back at the recent holiday season it has made us think about how they impact our lifestyle activities. Who doesn’t love the holidays with all the family, friends and festivities. But how do they fit into your life in the lifestyle? For us empty nesters the holidays are very different than when we had kids at home. With an empty nester you enjoy a certain degree of freedom. With kids, family life and for that matter your lifestyle life, revolves around the school calendar and all of the kids’ extracurricular activities.
The most hallowed days of the lifestyle calendar are New Years and Halloween. How do you celebrate them? For us it varies, some years we have had quiet New Years Eves but other years we have partaken with full gusto.
In past years we hosted a small get togethers, passing hors ‘duoverses and cocktails. We don’t save the champagne for mid-night because let’s just say people are usually quite involved when the ball drops in Times Square. One memorable NYE house party was hosted by good friends. The hosts gave their guests the option to stay over so the liquid refreshments were flowing for those who partake. One of the guests was a chef who prepared breakfast and hangover elixirs for those who opted to stay. We both share a sexy “snapshot” from that evening though the snapshot is from different angles. In short, at some point in the evening, the chef’s female companion began chatting up Donna and together they disappeared into one of the bedrooms. Let’s just say that they almost burned the house down.
Another great NYE event was at Desire Pearl, think women dressed elegantly and provocatively and the guys looking their best in black tie. A delicious buffet dinner was followed by dancing then it was off to the hot tub … need we say more?
We know lots of you look forward to Halloween for months and spend countless hours creating amazing costumes but that’s not us. Not to say that we don’t enjoy seeing our friend’s creativity, but we have given up trying to come up with costumes … we are just not as creative in that department. We just don’t enjoy the dress up … and no longer enjoy Halloween parties.
Another day on the calendar that we think doesn’t get enough notice in the lifestyle world is Super Bowl Sunday. No matter the match-up, we very much get into the day. For many it is about dressing up in your favorite team shirts as well as lots of fun and shenanigans. We have hosted some fun parties. Think of the bets. Think of half-time. We’ll leave the rest to your imagination.
For some, the holidays, even our favorite ones, are not all rainbows and unicorns. Some are just cock blocks or clam jams, depending on your gender. How many of us shut down for a month or so starting with Thanksgiving? With all the shopping, holiday parties and family obligations, who has time for a play date? But is a seasonal hiatus all that bad? We don’t think so. For us, it gives us time to regroup and focus on ourselves. We like to recap about the year that is ending and plan for the new year. It’s fun to look back on our naughty escapades and wonder what trouble we may get into in the coming year. Carpe annum anyone?
So, the lifestyle calendar may have its ups and downs. Tell us how you deal with them.
XOXO,
Donna & Alex
